The winner will receive a $2,500 prize and trophy at the National Press Foundation's Annual Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.
The award will be for work that exhibits power to influence public opinion in what the cartoonist believes to be the right direction, plus good drawing, striking effect, and effective use of humor. The competition is opened to editorial cartoonists of newspapers and magazines whose work was published between Sept. 1, 2008 and Sept. 1, 2009. The application deadline for 2009 entries is 5 pm Monday, October 5, 2009.
Applicants must submit six complete packets to the National Press Foundation. Each packet must contain the following: - Entry form (download)
- Five cartoons (copies are acceptable)
- Letter of support from an editor or supervisor
- A brief bio
