Middle class worries about health coverage and insurance costs are increasing. The number of uninsured Americans under 65 continues to grow. Concepts like “single-payer systems” and “universal coverage” are popping up, but often are not well understood. Every candidate has a health care proposal.

To foster sophisticated, timely reporting as the 2008 presidential campaign unfolds, the National Press Foundation presented this McCormick Tribune Specialized Reporting Institute. Over the course of the four-day program participants interacted with experts from government, think tanks, the business sector, academia, and advocacy groups, and senior journalists.
